For those who love archaelogy, this is the perfect place. It's a burial mound from the dynasty of an ancient Thracian king in Bulgaria dating back to the 4th and 5th centuries. This particular necropolis consists of 8 mounds, each with a different size. This tomb is 65.6 feet high and 278.8 feet in diameter. It's made of stone blocks, held together by iron clamps and covered with lead. Among other things, it contains two large chambers, a rectangle one and a circular one.
Karlovo, with 28,000 people is only 7.5 miles from Banya and is a thriving town with many nice shops and restaurants. It sits at the base of the Balkan Range and the low mountain spurs of Sredna Gora Mountains. This town was the birthplace of Vasil Levski, the Apostle of Bulgarian freedom from the Turkish empire in the 19th century. You'll find lots of interesting things to see and do in Karlovo, including the world famous Day of the Rose that is celebrated every year on the first Saturday of June. The entire town participates in this wonderful celebration of the world's most cherished flower, the rose.

The mountains and the foothills await you and beckon you to come and discover for yourself why Bulgaria is indeed a treasure among nations with its beautiful mountains and deep green valleys. The town of Hisarya, population 9,400, is located just 8.5 miles from Banya and is a modern health resort with 22 mineral springs. During the Roman rule of Bulgaria, it was called Augusta and Sevastopolis and was a wealthy city with wide stone streets, marble baths, a sewage system and many statutes of Roman gods. Sick people found healing water in Hisarya and came from all over the Balkan peninsula. Hisarya is a very clean town and its water ranges in temperature from 75-120 degrees fahrenheit. There are also many beautiful parks and gardens that surround the city, as well as the remains of the anicient Roman wall. It's a great place to have your picture taken with that someone special.
