Central Bath
The Banya resort is known simply as Banya or by the name of Karlovski Mineralni Bani, depending on who you talk to in the area. It is situated in the very heart of Bulgaria at the geographical center of the country. It sits at the southern foot of the Sredna Gora Mountains and boast some of the very best mineral water in all of Bulgaria and the entire world. There are more than 10 mineral springs in Banya, making it a destination of choice for many who really know their mineral water. Bulgarians were brought up in the old days at baths such as the ones found at Banya. Therefore there is a deep and abiding connection between many of the past generations with the healing powers of the water. Younger Bulgarians are less likely to know much about the mineral springs but many are returning to the traditions of their fatherfathers and are beginning to enjoy the waters more and more.

The largest bath facility in Banya is the Central Bath or the King's Bath. It was completed in 1939 by King Boris III and refurbished toward the end of the last century. It is a modern facility with two separate pools areas and showers for both men and women. The water in the Central Bath is very hot but is usually kept in the soaking pool at 101 degrees Farenheit (39 Celsius).
In addition to the pool and shower facilities at the Central Bath, there are also available various hyrdotheraphy procedures and massage therapy in the same building. The mineral water that the therapists use in the facility comes from over 10 mineral springs and offers a variety of healing properties. Among those preferred by many are the medical underwater massages and baths using mineral water and aromatic salts. The price of these procedures vary from 3 to 20 BGN Leva. Because the climate in the area is very transitory continental with a Mediterranean influence, the winters in Banya are mild and the summers are rarely hot, making it a perfect place to visit year round. The Central Bath and all the mineral water facilities in Banya serve as a perfect place for rehabilitation. Medical treatment is available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
